Access Control Systems
Touchless face recognition door access in Dubai
Face recognition access control lets people open a door without touching anything: the terminal checks a live face against stored templates, releases the lock and logs the entry. We fit and repair terminals across Dubai after a free site visit.

Picture the lobby at five to nine
Sixty people arrive within ten minutes. Some carry coffee, some wear gloves, one has a laptop bag in each hand. A card reader means digging for a pass; a fingerprint reader means touching a shared surface. A face terminal reads the person as they approach and the door is open by the time they reach it. That is the situation face recognition was built for: high-traffic doors where hands are busy or hygiene matters, such as clinics, labs, food preparation areas and shared offices.
What happens inside the terminal
At enrolment the terminal takes a photo or live scan and converts it to a template of facial measurements. At the door a camera captures the face, a liveness check tries to confirm it is a real person rather than a photo or a screen, and the terminal compares the capture with stored templates. A match tells the controller to release the lock and write a log line. Terminals in the ranges listed for this page, Suprema and ZKTeco, can run matching on the device, so a network fault does not stop recognition.
Where it works well and where it struggles
| Situation | Result | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor lobby, steady lighting | Reliable and quick | Mount at face height, avoid glare |
| Doorway facing low sun | Washed-out images, more rejections | Move the terminal or add a shade |
| Changing appearance, glasses, face coverings | Slower or rejected | Re-enrol; check mask settings in policy |
| Outdoor entry | Needs weather rating and heat tolerance | Use a rated unit and a hood |
| Dusty site entrance | Lens soiling | Schedule lens cleaning |
If staff handle cement or paint all day, a card with RFID access may serve better than a face or finger.
Privacy first
A face template is personal data. Before installation decide who is enrolled, what consent or notice staff receive, who can see the logs and for how long images and templates are kept. Follow applicable UAE data protection and building policies, and keep the written answer on file. In a shared tower, tenants and the building management should agree who controls a lobby terminal. If a camera records the scene, remember that CCTV in Dubai falls under SIRA rules, so regulated scope needs a SIRA-licensed provider and project approval where it applies.
Installing a face terminal
- Choose the mounting point on the survey: height for the average user, away from reflective glass, direct sun and spray.
- Run network and lock cables, with power for the terminal from a protected supply.
- Fit the lock, door sensor, exit button and emergency release; connect the fire alarm release for escape doors.
- Set terminal parameters: recognition threshold, liveness level, door open time and tamper alarm.
- Enrol users in good light, front on, with a few angles; remove poor photos.
- Test a valid face, a stranger, a photo held up, a blocked camera and a power cut.
- Hand over with administrator training and the enrolment procedure for new starters.
Approvals and egress
A lobby or lift door belongs to the building, so ask management for written consent. Doors on an escape route still need a manual release and a link to the fire alarm, whatever the credential. Escape doors follow Civil Defence requirements and the approved drawings, which your consultant confirms.
Looking after it in Dubai conditions
The camera lens is the key part. Sand, sunscreen and fingerprints dull it, and rejection rates creep up before anyone notices. Wipe the lens and glass on a routine. Heat matters: a terminal in direct summer sun can reduce performance or restart, and humidity near the coast pushes condensation into poorly sealed housings. Keep controllers in a ventilated cabinet and check lock wiring for corrosion.
When it needs repair
- Users who were accepted last month are now rejected.
- The screen shows a camera error or the terminal reboots in afternoon heat.
- Recognition works but the lock does not release.
- Attendance times are wrong after an outage.
- Terminal disconnects from the server each hour.
We check supply voltage, lens, lock circuit and firmware in that order, and re-enrol where templates are suspect. Our general guide, biometric and RFID integration, explains how face terminals tie into wider systems.
Face, finger or card
Pick face where touchless entry and speed matter, finger where users are few and identity must be proven, and card where there are many users and frequent turnover. Read the parent overview, access control systems, and the neighbouring biometric access control page, or the comparison RFID vs biometric.
Enrolment is where accuracy is won
Most recognition problems begin with a poor enrolment photo, taken in a corridor at the end of a long day. Good practice is to enrol in the same light as the door, with the person facing the camera, neutral expression, no hat, and a second photo if they wear glasses. Review the quality score, delete poor captures and repeat. For a large site, plan bulk enrolment days and a simple procedure for new starters, so nobody is waved through by the guard because enrolment lagged behind hiring. Re-enrol people after major appearance changes, and remove leavers on their last day. For visitors, issue a time-limited card instead of enrolling their face unless your policy supports it.
Anti-spoofing in plain terms
A liveness check looks for cues such as depth, texture, infrared reflection or movement that a flat photo or screen does not show. Stronger settings reject more fakes and also more genuine users in poor light. The sensible approach is to set the level by door risk: a lobby can run a balanced setting, while a server room pairs a face check with a card or PIN so spoofing alone is not enough. Ask for the test to be run in front of you on the day of handover.
What shapes the quote
Terminal model and recognition capacity, number of doors, outdoor rating, lock hardware, cable distance, attendance features, enrolment support and integration with lifts or gates. A new build with planned conduits costs less labour than a retrofit through finished walls.

Supply in Dubai
Mount Everest Automatic Doors supplies Face Recognition Access Controls in Dubai, with a free site visit, installation and servicing by our own technicians. We also supply to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
Safety firstDo not force a moving gate or a door held by a spring, and switch off the power before you look at an opener. Springs and motors can injure.
01Dubai conditions
What the climate does to doors and gates
Heat
Motors, boards and batteries in direct sun run hotter than their data sheets assume. Shade, ventilation and a suitable duty rating matter.
Sand and dust
Dust collects in tracks, rack and bottom rails. Cleaning and lubrication on a schedule keep travel smooth and the motor load low.
Coastal humidity
Near the shore, salt and humidity attack bare steel and exposed contacts. Finish, fixings and sealed enclosures are worth specifying.
Wind
Large solid leaves act as sails. Gates and shutters in exposed spots need the right locks, guides and limit settings.

What changes a quote
We do not publish fixed prices because no two openings are the same. These are the things that move a quote, so you know what to have ready.
| Factor | Why it matters | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Opening width and height | Wider and taller openings need stronger operators and rails. | Raises it |
| Leaf weight and material | Solid steel or glass is heavier than light aluminium or mesh. | Raises it |
| Power at the site | A nearby supply is simpler than a new cable run. | Depends |
| Traffic and duty cycle | A shared car park opens far more often than a private villa gate. | Raises it |
| Access control | Remotes only is simple; cards, intercom or number plate reading add equipment. | Depends |
| Finish and design | A matched finish or custom panel takes more fabrication. | Depends |
| Site access | Tight lifts, basements or limited working hours affect the plan. | Depends |
