Video intercoms for Dubai gates and entrances

A video intercom lets you see, hear and speak to a visitor, then release the door or gate from a monitor or your phone. We install and repair villa, tower and app-based systems across Dubai after a free site visit.

Gate & Video Intercom Systems - automatic doors & gates by Mount Everest Automatic Doors

Start with how visitors arrive

Before choosing a screen, picture the ordinary Tuesday. A courier rings while you are in a meeting. A driver waits at the gate while the main door is a long walk from the kitchen. A guest arrives and you are abroad. Each case wants a different intercom. A one-to-one kit suits a villa where somebody is usually home. An app-based system suits families that travel. A multi-apartment system suits a tower where one entrance serves many flats and the concierge needs a master station. Writing down those moments saves buying the wrong system.

The pieces

  • Outdoor station: camera, microphone, speaker and call button, sometimes with a card reader or keypad.
  • Indoor monitor or phone app: where you see and answer.
  • Door release: an electric strike or magnetic lock, or a relay to the gate motor.
  • Power supply and backup battery: station, monitor and lock each need correct power.
  • Cabling or network: two-wire, four-wire or network cable, depending on the system.
  • GSM or IP module: forwards calls to a mobile phone when nobody is near a monitor.

Gate release is often added to an existing motor; see gate motors and gate access control for the control board side.

Brands

The brands listed for this page are Dahua and Hikvision. We advise on a range after seeing the cable route and the number of stations, since many failures come from a mismatch between station, monitor and power rather than from the brand.

Installation, step by step

  1. Walk the route from gate to house or from entrance to risers; note conduits, distance and obstacles.
  2. Decide station height, angle and shade; avoid backlit positions where faces turn dark.
  3. Pull new cable or test the existing run; label every conductor.
  4. Mount the outdoor station in a rated housing with a proper seal.
  5. Fit the monitor, power supply and lock release; add a relay to the gate board if needed.
  6. Commission: picture, sound, call routing, door release time and night image.
  7. Pair phones to the app, set call order, and show everybody how to answer, mute and release.

Approvals

In a tower the entrance station, riser cabling and common-door locks belong to the building, so ask management or the owners' body for written consent before work begins. In a villa community, master developers such as Emaar and Nakheel require approval for exterior modifications, so check whether a new gate-post station counts. An intercom with recording is a camera in effect: CCTV rules under SIRA apply where relevant, and recorded images fall under applicable UAE data protection and building policies. Do not point a station at a neighbour's door.

Why Dubai conditions kill cheap stations

An outdoor station sits at the hottest, dustiest point on the property. Direct afternoon sun overheats electronics and fades plastics. Sand clogs speaker grilles and buttons, and coastal humidity corrodes screw terminals inside housings that are not sealed. Cable that runs through unsealed conduit across a garden brings moisture to the back of the station. Choose a rated station, add a sun hood, and seal cable entries.

Signs it needs repair

  • Picture is dark, grainy or missing; sound is crackly or one-way.
  • The call button works only when pressed hard.
  • The monitor shows "no signal" in the afternoon and recovers at night.
  • You hear the call on the phone but cannot open the door.
  • The lock buzzes but does not release, or releases late.

Faults in the lock circuit are the commonest cause of "the intercom works but the gate will not open". See integrating gates with video intercom and CCTV for how the parts link.

Choosing among options

Ask five questions. Do you need to answer away from home? How many stations and monitors? Will the same entrance also need card or code entry? Is there mobile signal or network at the gate? Who will manage visitors in a shared building? If the entrance also needs credentials, read about access control systems and consider a combined unit.

Small decisions that make daily use easier

Mount the outdoor station at a height that works for both a driver in a car and a person on foot, which often means a compromise or two stations. Choose a ringtone and call order that suits the household: monitor first, then phones after a short delay, so a family member at home answers before a phone far away rings. Set the door release time long enough for a person to push the gate but short enough that it relocks. On villa gates, link the release to pedestrian open rather than a full vehicle cycle. In towers, agree who may release the entrance when residents are away, and keep an up-to-date directory, because stale names are the main source of complaints.

What happens when the power or network fails

A wired audio and video system with a local power supply often keeps working for a short time on battery, while IP and Wi-Fi systems also depend on the router at the gate and on the internet link to reach your phone. Decide what matters. If the gate must open for the family during an outage, ensure the lock release and the gate motor have their own battery backup and a manual release procedure. If phone answering matters, a mobile-data backup on the router helps. We test a simulated outage at handover so you know how the entrance behaves.

What drives the quote

Number of stations and monitors, cable distance and condition, wired versus IP or GSM, extra functions such as card reader or recording, lock and gate interface, and whether existing cabling can be reused. A tower with many apartments needs risers and a directory, which is a different job from a villa kit.

Supply in Dubai

Mount Everest Automatic Doors supplies Video Intercoms in Dubai, with a free site visit, installation and servicing by our own technicians. We also supply to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Safety firstDo not force a moving gate or a door held by a spring, and switch off the power before you look at an opener. Springs and motors can injure.

01Dubai conditions

What the climate does to doors and gates

  • Heat

Motors, boards and batteries in direct sun run hotter than their data sheets assume. Shade, ventilation and a suitable duty rating matter.

  • Sand and dust

Dust collects in tracks, rack and bottom rails. Cleaning and lubrication on a schedule keep travel smooth and the motor load low.

  • Coastal humidity

Near the shore, salt and humidity attack bare steel and exposed contacts. Finish, fixings and sealed enclosures are worth specifying.

  • Wind

Large solid leaves act as sails. Gates and shutters in exposed spots need the right locks, guides and limit settings.

03The quote

What changes a quote

We do not publish fixed prices because no two openings are the same. These are the things that move a quote, so you know what to have ready.
