What happens on the visit

A technician moves the gate by hand first, then runs it under power, watches the limits, tests the photocells and the reversal on an obstruction, and opens the control box to look for heat, moisture and loose wiring. You receive a quote in plain terms, and we retest everything we touched before leaving.

Dubai conditions

Sand collects in the rack, heat dries out grease and compresses seals, and humid air corrodes terminals. Sprinklers sometimes soak photocells, which stops the gate closing. Garage motors work harder when a door spring has weakened, and in hot summers springs can fail without warning. We check balance first, then test limits and the safety reversal. The lamp on my Life gate blinks and nothing moves. What does that signal?
The board is alive but something is holding it back, most often an open safety input such as a dirty, blocked or misaligned photocell, or a pressed safety edge. A release left disengaged does the same. Clean the lenses and confirm the release is engaged. If that fails, we test each input to find the open circuit instead of bypassing a safety device.
Why is my Life brand garage motor labouring to raise the door?
The motor is meant to guide the door, not hold its weight. Weak or broken springs, or seized rollers and tracks, make it strain, and it may cut out or run hot. Release the motor and lift the door by hand: it should feel light and stay put halfway. If not, the balance needs repair first, and we check springs, rollers and tracks before the motor.
How can I retrofit safety beams to an old Life gate lacking them?
Normally this works, as long as the control board offers a photocell input. These beams matter because they halt the gate before it hits someone or a car. We run the wiring, set the sensors at the correct height, line them up, and break the beam to confirm the gate reverses. A board without that input could need swapping for a newer one.
Why is my Life sliding gate motor rattling or clicking?
Rattling or ticking normally comes from a motor fixing that has loosened, a pinion biting the rack unevenly, or a gate roller that has broken. A gearbox short of grease sounds like grinding instead, while sand in the rack gives a rough crunch. We run the gate at low speed to pinpoint the origin, then adjust, grease or tighten. Can an automatic sliding glass door cope with Dubai summer heat and sand?

Yes, provided it is specified and maintained for local conditions. Heat above 45 C stresses control boards and motors, and fine desert sand collects in the floor track and on the carriage wheels, which is the most common cause of noisy or slow doors.

A good installation keeps the controller out of direct sun, uses sealed brush strips at the head and jambs, and leaves the track easy to clean. Regular cleaning of the track and a check of the belt and rollers matter more in Dubai than in cooler cities. What happens to an automatic door in Dubai if the power goes off?

It depends on how the entrance was set up. Many sliding doors can be fitted with a battery backup that lets them open, or stay open, for a limited period. Without one, most can be pushed open by hand once the lock is released.

Decide what you want before installation: fail open, fail closed, or open on battery. For shops and clinics, a manual release plus battery is a sensible mix.
