Remote Controls and Receivers for Gates and Garage Doors

Remote Controls & Receivers - automatic doors & gates by Mount Everest Automatic Doors

First, find out whether it is the remote or the door

Try the wall button or the manual switch. If that moves the door or gate, the motor and board are fine and the problem sits between your hand and the receiver. If the wall button fails too, the fault is deeper and a repair visit is needed. This two-minute test saves most owners from buying a remote they do not need.

Why remotes lose range or stop

  • A tired battery gives a weak signal. Replace it first and test again.
  • A worn button contact makes the remote work only at some pressings.
  • A receiver card in a hot, dusty housing drifts or fails.
  • A loose or missing antenna cuts the range sharply.
  • Metal leaves, thick walls and a receiver inside a steel box block the signal.
  • The remote has lost its pairing after a board change or a memory wipe.

Our guide to garage door opener not working shows the quick checks in order.

Adding, replacing and pairing remotes

  1. Identify the receiver and the type of code it expects.
  2. Choose a handset that is compatible with that receiver; mixing systems rarely works.
  3. Put the receiver into learn mode and send the code from the new handset.
  4. Test at the gate or door from the real working distance.
  5. Delete lost handsets from the receiver memory if the system allows it.
  6. Write down how many remotes are paired for your records.

Security when a remote is lost

A lost remote opens your gate for whoever finds it. If you also lose the address, the risk is higher. Where the receiver allows, wipe its memory and re-pair only the remotes you still hold. If the receiver cannot delete single remotes, a new receiver card is the clean fix. Rolling code remotes are harder to copy than fixed code ones, and we recommend them for any new fit.

Heat, dust and humidity

Remotes left on a car dashboard in a Dubai summer age quickly: the case warps, the battery weakens and the button pads wear. Store spares in a shaded place, not in the car. Receivers in a gate pillar can overheat if the box is closed with no air; mount them in shade and keep the antenna clear of metal. Sand in a keypad blocks the buttons, and humid air near the coast corrodes contacts. A silicone cover for a handset and an occasional wipe of the keypad extend life.

When the receiver is the problem

If every remote has short range, replace the receiver or its antenna rather than all the handsets. Moving the antenna out of the metal housing, raising it above the wall and fitting an external antenna are common fixes. If the receiver is built into an old control board that is also failing, replacing the board with a matching receiver may be the sensible choice; see control panels and boards.

Channels, buttons and who gets which

A handset with several buttons can drive several jobs: one button for the main gate, one for a pedestrian opening and one for a garage door, provided the receivers listen to separate channels. Decide the layout before programming, because changing it later means pairing every handset again. Many households keep a master remote locked away, give staff a pedestrian-only handset and hand family members full-access handsets. A label on each, written in your own system, avoids confusion when a remote goes missing and you need to know which one to remove.

Safety and approvals

A remote only sends a command; it must never override the safety sensors, and EN 12453 describes how power-operated gates and doors should behave when something is in the way. Replacing a remote needs no approval. Where a tower manages access, extra remotes for a barrier or gate may need management authorisation, so ask the building office first.

Whatever you replace, keep the old handset until the new one is tested at full distance from the road; a remote that works beside the pillar can still fail from the car, because the real working distance is the one that counts. We test from the driver's seat, with the engine running, before we leave the site.

Where to go next

Add phone control with GSM and Wi-Fi gate openers, or compare the garage door openers that use the same remotes. For the drive itself, see gate motors. The gate photocell guide explains why a gate that obeys the remote can still refuse to close.

The visit, the quote and a local note

Bring any working remote and all failing ones. We read the receiver, test range and pair the replacements on site. If you cannot visit, send a photo of the receiver and a remote through send a photo. The quote depends on the receiver type, the number of remotes, whether a keypad is added, the antenna and the state of the board. Call or WhatsApp +971 50 494 8667. Villa communities such as Arabian Ranches and Damac Hills often need extra handsets for staff and family.

Supply in Dubai

Mount Everest Automatic Doors supplies Gate Remote Controls in Dubai, with a free site visit, installation and servicing by our own technicians. We also supply to Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi. We are also supplying across the UAE.

Safety firstDo not force a moving gate or a door held by a spring, and switch off the power before you look at an opener. Springs and motors can injure.

01Dubai conditions

What the climate does to doors and gates

  • Heat

Motors, boards and batteries in direct sun run hotter than their data sheets assume. Shade, ventilation and a suitable duty rating matter.

  • Sand and dust

Dust collects in tracks, rack and bottom rails. Cleaning and lubrication on a schedule keep travel smooth and the motor load low.

  • Coastal humidity

Near the shore, salt and humidity attack bare steel and exposed contacts. Finish, fixings and sealed enclosures are worth specifying.

  • Wind

Large solid leaves act as sails. Gates and shutters in exposed spots need the right locks, guides and limit settings.
