Gate Control Panel and Board Repair in Dubai

A gate that behaves oddly may have a board problem. We test fuses, relays, supply and sensors, repair or replace the board and program it. Quote follows a free site visit.

Control Panels & Boards - automatic doors & gates by Mount Everest Automatic Doors

A short tour of what is in the box

Open the cover of a gate control panel and you will find a transformer that steps mains power down, a circuit board with a processor, relays that switch the motor, fuses that protect it, a receiver for the remote and terminal blocks where every cable lands. Each part fails in its own way. A blown fuse is a cheap fix, a burnt relay is a repair, a dead processor means a new board. Telling them apart takes a meter and some patience, which is why we test before we replace.

Settings a good installer programs

SettingWhat it controlsSymptom when wrong
Travel and limitsWhere the gate stops at open and closedGate hits the stop or halts short
Speed and soft stopHow fast and how gently it movesJerky start or a bang at the end
Force sensitivityHow much resistance stops the gateReverses for no reason, or pushes too hard
Auto-close timerTime before the gate closes by itselfCloses on cars or never closes
Pedestrian openingPartial opening for walkersWhole gate opens for every person
Photocell testChecks safety sensors before movingGate refuses to move with sensors dead

These values are set during installation and drift when the gate ages, the track gets dirty or a board is swapped. Re-learning the travel after repairs often fixes an annoying fault without any new parts.

Repair or replace the board

  1. Isolate the supply and check the fuses, transformer output and terminal connections.
  2. Look for burnt tracks, swollen capacitors and moisture marks on the board.
  3. Test inputs with a known-good remote and sensor to see whether the board responds.
  4. If the board is repairable and still available, repair; if not, fit a compatible replacement or a full upgrade.
  5. Rewire carefully, learn travel, set force and re-pair every remote.
  6. Test obstruction response and the release, then record the settings.

Why boards fail in Dubai

A closed plastic box in the sun can run far hotter than the air outside, and heat shortens the life of capacitors and relays. Moist air near the coast corrodes terminals and creeps under conformal coating, while sand and insects get into housings that are not sealed. Power surges and loose neutrals kill boards quickly. Good practice is to mount the panel in shade or a ventilated cabinet, seal cable entries, add surge protection and keep the lid closed. After a flash flood or a hose wash, dry the panel before restoring power.

Reading the wiring: what lands where

Terminal blocks are labelled for a reason. Motor power, limit switches, photocells, the edge, the lamp, the lock, the start button and the antenna each have a place, and swapping two wires can make a gate run backward or ignore its sensors. Before we remove anything we photograph the terminals and tag cables, then check every connection against the board manual. Loose or oxidised terminals cause more intermittent faults than failed chips, so tightening and cleaning them is a routine part of every panel visit. If a terminal is burnt, the block is replaced as well, not just cleaned.

Safety obligations

The board is where the safety functions live. It handles photocell inputs, edge sensing and force limits that EN 12453 describes for power-operated gates, and UAE rules on power door safety refer to that standard. Never bypass a safety input to get a gate moving. If a sensor fault stops the gate, we repair the sensor and leave the protection in place.

Warning signs the board is unwell

  • The gate behaves differently each day with no change in conditions.
  • Fuses blow repeatedly.
  • Remote works at the wall button but not through the receiver.
  • Status lights are dark or flash an error pattern.
  • A burnt smell or discoloured board.

Our guide on gate photocells and safety sensors explains how a faulty sensor can look like a board fault. If the whole drive is tired, see signs a gate motor is failing.

Test the protection after any change: place a solid object in the path and confirm the gate stops or reverses, then cover a photocell and see that the gate refuses to close. These two tests take a minute and show that the board still guards the opening.

Approvals

Changing a board inside an existing gate is maintenance and needs no community approval. Changing the access method at a tower entrance, or adding controls that alter the way a shared gate operates, may need building management consent.

Choosing a replacement

The new board must match the motor type, the number of motors, the safety inputs and the accessories. A single swing gate with an arm needs different logic from a double leaf with locks, and a sliding gate needs limit inputs. If you want phone control, ask for a board that accepts a module; see GSM and Wi-Fi gate openers. Pair the new board with fresh remote controls if the old receiver is part of the board. Motor sizing is covered at gate motors.

On site and what changes the quote

We open the panel, photograph the wiring, measure the supply and test the motor and sensors one by one. A photo of the inside of the box through send a photo helps us bring the right part. Quote drivers are board type, whether a direct replacement exists, the number of motors, accessories that need replacing, wiring condition and whether the box itself needs weatherproofing. Call or WhatsApp +971 50 494 8667. Panel problems appear across Dubai, from Al Quoz yards to Jumeirah Golf Estates villas.

Supply in Dubai

Mount Everest Automatic Doors supplies Gate Control Panels in Dubai, with a free site visit, installation and servicing by our own technicians. We also supply to Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi. We are also supplying across the UAE.

Safety firstDo not force a moving gate or a door held by a spring, and switch off the power before you look at an opener. Springs and motors can injure.

01Dubai conditions

What the climate does to doors and gates

  • Heat

Motors, boards and batteries in direct sun run hotter than their data sheets assume. Shade, ventilation and a suitable duty rating matter.

  • Sand and dust

Dust collects in tracks, rack and bottom rails. Cleaning and lubrication on a schedule keep travel smooth and the motor load low.

  • Coastal humidity

Near the shore, salt and humidity attack bare steel and exposed contacts. Finish, fixings and sealed enclosures are worth specifying.

  • Wind

Large solid leaves act as sails. Gates and shutters in exposed spots need the right locks, guides and limit settings.
