Yes, regularly. Fine desert sand builds up in the side guides and on the slat edges, which adds friction, makes the motor work harder and can leave the shutter noisy or slow to move. It can also cause jamming if grit packs into the guide channel.

A simple routine helps: brush or vacuum the guides, wipe the slats, and check that nothing is stored in the path. Do not oil the guides heavily, because oil traps more dust.
